Read MoreHere at The Josh Pilch Show, I spend a lot of time perfectly and expertly remembering every single detail of my life as a teenager down to the merest detail, so that I can draw it and show it to you guys! But one thing I can’t exactly represent to you guys in drawing is the way that high school felt to me. Many artists have tried, and in the end it was concluded that it is literally impossible to draw feelings (And don’t try to tell me about the movie Inside Out! Those are COMPUTER GRAPHICS. It's totally different!).
So I’m starting this series of Josh Pilch Show Playlists to get y’all hip to the kind of music I was listening to back then, since music was a big way I connected with my feelings...you know, if I ever felt like doing something like that….
I figured I’d start with a band whose music seems perfectly suited to reveal the heart and soul of a floppy-haired only child geek boy - They Might Be Giants! They Might Be Giants have been around for a long time, and I think a lot of self-ostracized teens have identified with their music and lyrics. I think that’s because they like to experiment with genre so much, it keeps their sound fresh, and I think it’s also because their lyrics are so narrative, and so specific, and sooooo impersonal. When asked about “Can’t Keep Johnny Down,” a song whose title and lyrics contains the first name of both of the front men of the band, they insisted that that song was completely fictional and told from the point-of-view of a made-up unreliable narrator just like all their other songs. Which is nutso-crazy.
But again, as a nerdy only child, I think that idea of pouring oneself into a piece of art and creating a fictional framework to distance oneself from the truth of it was a really appealing method of being creative while avoiding any and all conflict. Oh, but don’t read too much into that statement and how it might relate to The Josh Pilch Show as a comic series, because it doesn’t. It doesn’t relate at all. Ahem…
So anyway, please enjoy I DON'T WANT THE WORLD - A THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS PLAYLIST!!

Read More--And I mean that quite literally. Chapter 1 is over!
I'll be back next week with the beginning of Chapter 2, and I am very excited for that. Because I'll be honest -- Chapter 1 was the amuse-bouche...Chapter 2 is the main course, babyyyyy!
Chapter 2 will begin to set in motion some pieces and plot threads that will continue and build over the entire course of The Josh Pilch Show. I want to give the comic more of a serialized feel. The chapters will still be short and sweet, so you don't feel like you're reading the never-ending perfectly remembered high school true story. But if you stick with it, I think it will be very exciting to see where everything goes!
You will say things down the line such as, "Oohhhh yeah, I remember that!" and "Ahh yes! This was set up some time ago!" So you're not gonna want to miss out on that!
Thanks for sticking with me through Chapter 1! Onward and upward!

Read MoreThat's right! I have been perfectly remembering events from my teenage years and sharing them with you for a whole month now! Sometimes, I just find myself saying, "Where do the month go?"
So far, I've really enjoyed working on this comic, and I'm really excited by and appreciative of the people who have been following along!
But do you know what I didn't enjoy at all? Actually making this dang website you're looking at right now! Man, oh, man do I not enjoy making websites! Luckily, as I was working on this thing, I happened upon the incredibly talented comics artist/web designer Clay Yount, whose work you can find here. In this blog post, he outlined a super simple way of putting together a webcomics site with Squarespace, and even better, he included some original code he created to make it all work perfectly.
So yeah, give his stuff a look, especially his comic, Hamlet's Danish. I honestly maybe never would have put this site together without his help, so I owe him a ton of thanks.
And I also owe thanks to you, the reader! Thanks for sticking with me! Remember, The Josh Pilch Show updates every Thursday!

Read MoreHello! Hi! Welcome to The Josh Pilch Show! I'm Josh Pilch, which I think makes me uniquely qualified to explain this thing. You see, a bunch of years ago, I went to a place called "high school." And this was during a time when I was a "teenager." I reacted to this the only way I knew how - growing my hair advisably long and other poor decisions.
In the end, I think it's safe to say that high school is something that happened to me. Fortunately for you, the reader, I happen to have a PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY. And I know what you're thinking - isn't "photographic memory" basically just a thing that people claim they have without realizing that it's actually a very specific brain function found almost exclusively in young children, and even then, very very rarely? No. It's not. I have it. And that's why here, on The Josh Pilch Show, I will presenting all of the events of my adolescence EXACTLY as they happened to me.
So again I say, welcome to The Josh Pilch Show! A portrait of teenage life, perfectly remembered by the author, presented now to you as a coming-of-age-show, which is actually a webcomic!
I know. The tagline rolls right off the tongue.
Thanks for giving us a look-see!
~Josh
